- Schnell, dated August 1, 1986 This letter is being written to document the time extensions granted to Union Electric by the NRC for responding to an NRC request for additional information.
t Reference 1 required holders of Operating Licenses to review and document the design basis for the operation of safety-related motor-operated valves (MOVs) in the high pressure coolant injection / core spray and emergency feedwater systems that are required to be tested for operational readiness in accordance with 10 CPR 50.55 (g).
The results of this review and the design basis documentation were transmitted per Reference 2.
The preliminary NRC review of the Callaway MOV submittal resulted in a request to Union Electric for additional information (Reference 3) to be submitted by September 3, 1986.
l By telecon on August 19, 1986, with Mr. E. G. Greenman (USNRC Region III) Union Electric was granted an extension until September 19 to provide this additional information.
This extension was granted to allow Union Electric to utilize i
information presented to NRR by Motor Operated Valve Analysis And i
l Test System (MOVATS) Inc. at a meeting held in Washington on September 4, 1986.
As a result of the September 4 meeting, Union Electric

3 utilize MOVATS to satisfy the requirements of Bulletin 85-03.
After discussions with MOVATS Inc., Union Electric recognized the need for additional time to properly prepare the MOVATS/Callaway program.
An additional 30 days was discussed with and agreed to by Mr. Greenman in a telecon on September 18.
Union Electric will provide the updated response to Bulletin 85-03 by October 17, 1986, which will include the MOVATS program for testing of motor-operated valves.
