for response. In your letter, you reiterate the agreements reached at a generic meeting with the staff concerning wiring separation within the I & C protection racks. These agreements were specifically related to your 7100 Series Process Control System. Further, you request a meeting with the staff to discuss the extension of these agreements to the 7300 Series Process Control System since there exists an impasse with the staff in this regard.

As a result of the generic meeting, it was the staff's understanding that the additional verification testing was to assure that the "as built" 9 installation of the Diablo Canyon 7100 Series Process Control System which (V

did not conform to design criteria wiring separation would be i=mune to

[ postulated conditions. The staff also believed that Westinghouse understood that this test was only applicable to the Diablo Canyon design

( ') and subsequent plants would have to be reviewed individually. Further, the statement that the results and conclusions of the tests have been accepted by the staff appears in error. A letter to Pacific Gas and Electric Company from Olan D. Parr of NRR, dated September 4,1975, identified the areas that require resolution. ' A copy of this icteer is attached for your convenience.

We agree with you that this matter should be resolved in an expeditious manner. In this regard, I suggest that the appropriate members of your staff contact Mr. Thomas A. Ippolito, Chief. Electrical, Instrumentation

' and Control Systems Branch to establish a mutually agreeable meeting date.
