EXEMPTION FF0M REQflIREMENTS OF APPENDIX R TO 10 CFR PART 50, SECTION III.G.2 Re:
Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No.1 The Comission has issued the enclosed exemption to certain requirements of 10 CFR Part 50, Apoendix P Section III G.2 in response to your letters of March 1,1982; July 16,1982; April 15,1983; December 4, 1984: August 7, 1985; and August 23, 1985. Subsection III.G specifies the separation, fire barrier, and suppression requirements where both trains for redundant safe shutdowr components are located within the same fire area.
Your initial reouest for ten exenstions from the specific provisions of Section III.G of Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50was later reduced to the five exenptions granted (Enclosure 1). The bases for these exemptions are presented in the Safety Evaluation (Enclosure 2). Also included in the safety evaluation (Section 8) is staff approval of the post fire safe shutdown capability.
