o TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CHATTANOOGA. TENNESSEE 37401 SN 157B Lookout Place JAN 291887 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Washington, D.C.

20555 Attention:

Mr. James M. Taylor BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) - SEQUOYAH INSPECTION REPORT 86-27, (ITEM D2.1-1) - IDENTIFICATION OF SAFETY-RELATED VALVE REPAIRS INVOLVING FURMANITE PROCESS By R. L. Gridley's letter to you dated November 10, 1986, we provided responses to findings in Sequoyah Inspection Report 86-27 as they applied to BFN.

In particular, the response to item D2.1-1 stated that a review of maintenance requests (MRs) was being performed to identify safety-related valve leakage repairs involving the Furmanite process and was expected to be complete by January 1, 1987.

We have decided to increase the scope of the maintenance history search by reviewing our contract files to further identify services provided by Furmanite, Inc. for leak repairs. We believe this additional effort is necessary to ensure BFN has not overlooked any maintenance activities involving safety-related valve leakage repairs. Consequently, the date originally stated to complete the review will need to be extended to Apell 30, 1987.

Should you require further information regarding this matter, please get in touch J. D. Wolcott at 205/729-2689.

To the best of my knowledge, the statements contained herein are complete and true.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
