Response to Generic Letter (GL) 98-03, NMSS Licensees' and Certificate Holders' Year 2000 Readiness Programs Ladies and Gentlemen:
On June 22,1998, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Usued Generic Letter (GL) 98-03. The letter required licensees, such as Framatome Cogema Fuers Lynchburg Manufacturing Facility (FCF-LMF) to submit three responses. The first was required by September 20,1998, the second by December 31,1998, and if necessary, the third by July 1,1999. This letter addresses the third required response.
The third requirement states:
For facilities that are not Y2K ready on or before December 31,1998, submit a written response by, July 1,1999 updating the status and schedule of your Y2K Readiness Program submitted in (2) above. The resporise

should contain a status report of work remaining to be done to be Y2K O.
ready, including completion schedules. For systems that may affect safety and safeguards, contingency plans to become Y2K Ready and Y2K Compliant should be included in your response.
During the past several months FCF-LMF has worked vigorously to successfully complete all Y2K remediation using NEl/NUSMEG 97-07 as a guide. At the time of this writing, FCF-LMF is happy to report that all safety and safeguard systems have completed remediation and are Y2K ready.
All other internal systems not related to safety or safeguards have completed remediation with the exception of two process inspection computers. These y
computers arc scheduled to be in place by September 1,1999. FCF-LMF is still iD awaiting final status from its local utilities and some major suppliers, and will O
continue to monitor until resolved.
