CONFIRMATION OF MEETING - DUKE - DOCKET NOS. 50-269, 50-270, 50-287, 50-369, 50-370, 50-413 AND 50-414 This confirms the conversation between Mr. N. A. Rutherford of your staff, and Mr. T. A. Peebles of my staff, on February 24, 1987, following our conversations concerning a management meeting to be conducted at the Region II Office on March 6, 1987, at 10:00 a.m.
As we understand it, this meeting will include participation by Mr. Warren Owen, Mr. R. B. Priory, and yourself. We requested this meeting because of a number of recent events and enforcement actions at Duke Power Company's nuclear units that appear to reflect adversely on the quality of Duke's design review process and the effectiveness of interfaces between engineering and operations. We are very interested -in your perspectives on these issues, particularly since you have also expressed concern about these same issues. In that regard, a discussion of your assessment of root causes and needed corrective actions would be useful.
Should you have any questions regarding these arrangements, we will be pleased to discuss them.
