Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. Nemen M. Terc of this office

during the period January 11-16, 1987, of activities authorized by NRC

,

Operating Licenses OPR-51 and NPF-6 for Arkansas Nuclear One, Units :1 and 2, and

to the discussion of our findings with Mr. J. M. Levine and other members of

your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during the inspection included emergency detection,

classification, and protective action decisionmaking. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the NRC inspector.

The

inspection findings are documented in the enclosed inspection report.

The enclosed report identifies one deficiency in your emergency preparedness

program observed during the emergency exercise.

It is requested that within 30

days af ter receipt of this letter you provide this office with a sr hedule for

correcting this deficiency.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were

identified.

We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously

identified inspection findings.

The status of these items is identified in

paragraph 2 of the enclosed report.

The response requested by this letter is not subject to the clearance

-procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork

Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
