We invite your utility's participation in a one-day workshop on the NRC's Incident Investigation Program (IIP). For planning purposes, an agenda for the workshop is enclosed (Enclosure 1). Please note that we have also included a brief session at the end of the workshop on NRC's approach to performance indicators.

The purpose of the IIP workshop is to provide you an understanding of the process by which NRC will investigate potentially significant incidents and also provide an opportunity to gain insight into what NRC will expect of its I licensees in this process. The workshop will a'so be a forum for you to l raise questions about the process and its impact on your utility.

The workshop for utilities in NRC Region III will take place in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, January 29, 1987, at the Sheraton International Hotel near O' Hare Airport (6810 N. Mannheim Road). Rooms have been set aside for the evening of the 28th, at a rate of $75 (single) and $85 (double). Room reservations can be made by calling the Sheraton directly at (312) 297-1234.

Additionally, any added conference materials will be made available between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the evening of the 28th; look for the NRC table at the hotel.

- In order to provide you sufficient time to become familiar with the NRC's IIP procedures, we are enclosing a set of the revised procedures (Enclosure 2) with this invitation. The procedures were provided earlier to all Owners' Groups, INPO and NSAC for review and comment. For your information and added insight, Enclosure 3 contains our resolution of all comments received from industry on the IIP procedures. Lastly, Enclosure 4 describes the Performance Indicator Program.
