7 ENCLOSURE TMI-1 STATUS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD DECEMBER 12 - 26, 1986 1.
Plant Status As of 8:00 a.m. on December 26, 1986, TMI-1 was in cold shutdown on the IB-Train of Decay Heat Removal with reactor coolant temperature at 105 F and 0 psig RCS pressure. Reactor vessel (RV) water level was being main-tained at 10-18 fnches above the center line of the RV cold leg inlet piping.
2.
Facility Work Summary The plant was maintained in cold shutdown throughout the period. The licensee completed work on the reactor coolant pump (RCP) seals for the "A," "C," and "D" RCP's.
Reactor vessel (RV) water level was raised briefly during the period to accomplish an ultrasonic inspection (UI) of the inside of the RV nozzles. TFis inspection was one task in the in-service inspection (ISI) program which is being accomplished during this outage. Work continues on modifications with respect to fire protection and upgrading the emergency feedwater system to safety grade.
The licensee continued with refueling preparations and testing of the new fuel handling building ESF ventilation system.
3.
Items of Special Interest 10 CFR 50 Appendix R Fire Protection Audit During the week of December 15-19, 1986, representatives from the NRC Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), NRC Region I, and NRC contrac-tor personnel performed an audit of the licensee's compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix R, Fire Protection Program. The areas reviewed included: emer-gency lighting; safe shutdown capability, including alternate safe shutdown for a fire in the relay or control rooms; individual fire zone modifications to adhere to the Fire Hazards Analysis Report (FHAR) and subsequent NRR Safety Evaluation Reports (SER's); associated circuits analysis; and, manual valve actions required for safe plant shutdown.
Detailed results will be provided in Inspection Report 50-289/86-23. The licensee must be in compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix R prior to restart from the current outage. All deficiencies and open items identified during the audit will be reviewed during follow-up inspection by region-based inspectors or by the resident inspectors.
4.
NRC Staff Activities During the Period During this report period, the NRC staff consisted of the senior resident inspector and two resident inspectors.
For a portion of this time, two resident inspectors attended a counterpart meeting in King of Prussia.
One region-based inspector was on site part time to conduct a review of inservice inspection activities. The fire protection audit team was on 0FFICIAL RECORD COPY TMIl WEEKLY STATUS REPORT -
