The NRC Region I SALP Board has reviewed and evaluated the performance of
activities associated with the Vermont Yar.kee Nuclear Power Station for the
period of January 1, 1987 through June 30, 1988.
The results of this assess-
ment are documented in the SALP Board Report provided as Enclosure 1
3riefly,
the assessment found the plant to have been operated and supported in a manner
that reflected a strong management orientation toward safety. Although weak-
nesses were identified during this assessment period, it appears that correc-
tive action programs are in place or planned to address deficiencies in these
areas.
We will contact you soon to chedule a meeting to discuss the SALP evaluation.
At the meeting, ynu should be prepared so discuss our assessments and your
plans to improve paaformance in each of the functional areas.

intended to be a candid dialogue wherein any comments you may have regarding
our report may be discussed.

on the SALP Board Report within 30 days after the meeting.
