RESPONSE TO LETTERS FROM CONGRESSMAN MARKEY ON SOUTH AFRICA l
(U) Attached (Attachment 1) is a draft response to two letters from Congressman Markey inquiring about NRC knowledge of possible unauthorized activities by Americans in South Africa's nuclear power program (see Exhibit 1 of the enclosed EDO staff report for letters from Congressman Markey). [An earlier proposed response, which was forwarded in CR-85-13, has been redrafted in accordance with your memorandum of February 26 (Attachment 2). In addition, !
further infonnation on this matter was provided, at Comission request, in SECY-85-69.]
