Equipment Classification (GL 83-28, Items 2.2.1.2 and 2.2.1.3)

Dear Sir:

In response to Reference (b), the following information is provideds Item 2.2.1.2 Conformance with 10CTR50, Appendix B is detailed in Yankee's QA Topict.1 Report which incivdes a listing of all systems, components and structrres that are considered safety-related. This listing is developed further in a procedure entitled "Safety Classification of Systems, Components snd Structures" and a Safety Classification of Systems Manual.

These docums Me also provide the criteria to be used to determine to what extent equiposac is considered safety related on a component level.

The use of both the procedure and the Safety Classification of Systems Manual provides a complete and adequate means to ietermine the classification of components.

The Safety Classification of Systems Manual contains controlled drawings, sketches and listings indicating the safety-related boundaries.

A component within these boundaries is considered safety-related subject to the criteria outlined in the "Safety Classification of Systems, Components and Structures" procedure.

Any component within the boundaries identified by this manual is treated as safety-related unless a specific exclusion is given in the procedure.

The procedure is reviewed biennially in accordance with established plant requirements.

The Safety Classification of Systems Manual has undergone extensive review in its preparation and maintenance to verify the accuracy of the established classifications.

The manual is also updated periodically via the established design change process.
