LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION TIMELINESS

Dear Mr. Krieger:

On February 23,1999, we received your February 22,1999, letter transmitting license renewal applications for 4 Senior Reactor Operators and 7 Reactor Operators. All of these licenses had an expiration date of February 26,1999.10 CFR 55.55(b), states that renewal applications l

filed at least 30 days before the date of expiration will not expire until final disposition by the I

Commission. However, applications for renewal not filed at least 30 days before expiration of the current License are not afforded this protection and would expire absent disposition by the Commission prior to the expiration of the current License. Any such instance would require application for a new License under the provisions of 10CFR 55.31.

In this particular instance, we were able to complete our review of your request to renew these i

licenses prior to license expiration avoiding possible license expiration. For future renewals, we request that you provide your requests for renewal as soon as practicable in order to avoid unnecessary instances of expiration.
