4 ENCLOSURE WATERFORD STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 3 DOCKET NO. 50-382 REQUEST FOR ADDITIONP INFORMATION FOR GENERIC LETTER 83-28, ITEM 2.2 (PART 2)
The licensee for the Waterford Steam Electric Stetton, Unit 3 responded to Item 2.2 (Part 2) of Genaric Letter 83-28 by submittals dated November 4, 1983 and November 15, 1985. The staff has reviewed these responses and finds additional information is needed for some parts of Item 2.2 (Part 2). The requested information guidelines used by the staff for this item are listed below, followed by a brief evaluation of the licensee's submittals, and a listing of what the staff concludes is necessary to complete this item.
PROGRAM WHERE VENDOR INTERFACE CAN BE ESTABLISHED Requested Information:
The licensee response should describe their program for establishing and maintaining interfaces with vendors of safety-related components which ensures that vendors are contacted on a periodic basis and that receipt of vendor equipment technical information is acknowledged or otherwise verified.
1 This program description should establish that formal interfaces are established with the nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) vendor, as well as with the vendors of their diesel generators and safety related electrical switchgear.
In addition the licensee should confirm that a program of informal contact has been established with the vendors of other key safety-related components such as auxiliary feedpumps, emergency core cooling system pumps, batteries, battery chargers, invertors and valve operators, to facilitate the exchange of current.;chnical information. The description should verify that controlled procedures exist for handling this vendor technical information which ensure that it is kept current and complete and that it is incorporated into plant operating, maintenance and test procedures as is appropriate.
~
Evaluation:
The licensee responded to these requirements by letters dated November 4,1984 i
and November 15, 1985.
In these submittals the licensee described their current vendor interface programs which included implementation of the NUTAC/
VETIP program. The licensee failed to identify and describe a formal interface program with their NSSS vendor nor did they identify and describe formal interface programs with their diesel generator vendor and the major vendor of their safety-related electrical switchgear as requested by the guideline for this item. Neither have they established or confirmed the existence of an I

2-informal program of interface with the vendors of their other key safety-related equipment such as auxiliary feedwater pumps, emergency cooling system pumps, batteries, battery chargers, inverters, and valve operators to facilitate the exchange of current technical information.

Conclusion:==
The licenlee's response is not complete. They need to identify and describe formal programs of interface with their NSSS, diesel generator, and safety-related electrical switchgear vendors. They also should establish or confirm the existence of informal programs of contact with the vendors of other key key safety-related equipment as indicated in the evaluation above.
