REVIEW AND SAFEGUARD OF NRC CLASSIFIED MATERIAL In July of 1987 we contacted you concerning use of your facility for temporary storage for a study on radiological sabotage in non-power reartors. The confidential report, "Nonpower Reactor Sabotage Study," LA-CP-87-02, January 1987, is forwarded with this letter. lhis report is to be reviewed by cleared employees of the University of Virginia Research Reactor. I would like to inform you of certain NRC security precautions and procedures:

' NRC will send you NRC Form 277, "Request For Visit or Access Approval," identifying those individuals who we are authorizing to review this document.

  • Reviewers are not authorized to communicate either electronically or telephonically any classified information.
  • While in use by the reviewers, the classified information must be under their direct control to preclude physical, audio, and visual access by persons who do not have an NRC security clearance and who do not have a need to know approved by the NRC Division of Security.
  • Reviewers may not remove any notes or documents from the area designated for the review. All such information shall be stored along with the classified documents.
  • Any notes taken are to be marked top and bottom as Confidential and upon completion of work are either to be destroyed as classified or returned to NRC along with the classified documents.
  • Reviewers are not authorized to reproduce any classified information without the NRC Division of Security's written approval.
