Dear Mr. Bliss:
SUBJECT:
REACTOR CONTAINMENT FAN COOLERS (RCFC) - BYRON UNIT 2 (TAC NO. 64876)
In our letter dated February 6,1987, we concluded that the Byron Unit 2 fan coolers were adequate to perform their design function. We requested that certain changes be made in the FSAR and that you demonstrate that the enhanced performance of the RCFC observed from testing does not affect the assumptions regarding RCFC performance contai' led in the ECCS containment back pressure analysis or acceptable Appendix X evaluation.
In your September 23, 1987 letter, you committed to update the FSAR as required.
You also provided information to show that the enhanced RCFC performance does not negate the assumptions used in the Appendix K analysis. We conclude that your response is satisfactory and the issue is considered closed.
Sincerely.
Leonard N. Olshan, Project Manager Project Directorate III 4 Division of Reactor Projects - III, IV, V and Special Projects i
