Dr. Bruce W. Spencer Manager, Experiment Modeling Section Reactor Analysis and Safety Division Argonne National Laboratory 9700 South Cass Avenue l Argonne, IL 60439
Dear Dr. Spencer:
Item 2 of Task A for FIN A2260 requested that you, analyze the experimental conditions or approach of Item 1 for possible improvements and provide the written analysis to the NRC Technical Monitor before start of tests. Your letter of February 12, 1986 satisfied that request. Further the suggested exchange of three corium-coolant mixing tests and five simulant material jet-water mixing tests for the four corium. coolant mixing tests is acceptable.
- The changes in fixed experimental conditions, e.g., water depths, water temperature, and mixing mede as specified in Tables 1 and 2 attached to your letter are also acceptable.
['^ The overall project plan is new very cost effective. I am sure that you will be able to obtain the first ever quantitative information on multiple melt jet mixing under applicable reactor conditions. Please proceed according to the schedule.
Sincerely, John L. Telford NRC Technical Monitor Containment Systems Research Branch distribution: circ; chron; Telford; Curtis; Morris; Gillespie; Ross; Minogue l , i. ,, b f' 9 l OFC: CSRB CS B
