BUDGET ACTIVITY: 601930 PREVIOUS FY 1986 OBLIGATION: $200K OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate physically realistic models which describe fission product release from LWR fuels during severe accidents.
MODIFIED FY 1986 SCOPE OF WORK:
-1. For the remaining of the fiscal year, validate the fission product release code FASTGRASS against data obtained in FY 1986 from the ORNL VI Experiments and the BCL High Pressure Release Experiments.
- 2. Provide technical assistance to the NRC/RES/DAE as requested in the area of fission product release.

BUDGET ACTIVITY: 601930 PREVIOUS FY 1986 OBLIGATION: $100K OBJECTIVE: To conduct post-test examinations (PIE) of specimens from commercially irradiated fuel rods subjected to high temper-ature fissinn product release testing at ORNL. To provide information on fission product release mechanisms for use in developing detailed models of fission product release from fuel under severe core damage and core melt accidents.
MODIFIED FY 1986 SCOPE OF WORK:
- 1. Complete examination of the HI-6 fuel specimen and documentation of results.
- 2. Complete summary report on HI series fuel specimens.
- 3. Initiate pre-test characterization of BR-3 fuel as recommended by Lie BR-3 Fuel User Group.
