Dear Ms. Reagan:
This acknowledges receipt of your letter dated June 29, 1994, enclosing a transfer record pertaining to a 15 mci Ni-63 source which is used as a component of a gas chromatograph.
Your letter indicated that the source was transferred to Burton Metal Finishing Inc. of Columbus, Ohio. As explained to you during a telephone discussion with Don Gibbons of my staff on July 13, 1994, since Burton Metal Finishing, Inc. is not specifically licensed by the NRC or an Agreement State, that transaction is in violation of NRC requirements. The violation is specified in the enclosed Notice. A written response is required.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter, the enclosure, and your response to this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
The response directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this violation.
