NPF-4 Centlement VIRCINTA ET.ECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTN ANNA POWER STATION UNIT 1 ENERCENCY DIESEI. CENERATORS INVESTICATION In our letter of March 31, 1987 Serial No. 86-179C, we identified a problem involving extrusion of the pfston pin floating bushing for two upper pistons of the lit emergency diesel generator (EDC). This letter provides information on the current status of our investigation.
We have developed an examination progran for one piston pin and two floating bushings that were removed f rom the til EDG. This program was developed with assistance from Colt (EDG manufacturer) and Trident Engineering (EDC consultant) and includen both nondestructive and destructive testing. A final report will be provided to you during the third quarter of 1987.
We have also developed an engine inspection program to be conducted during the upcoming Unit I refueling outage ncheduled to begin April 19, 1987. The lit and IJ EDCs will be partially dinansembled and inspected.
The floating bushings and piston pins in the upper and lower pistons will be repinced. The cylinder linern, innert bushings and bearings will be inspected. Their replacement will be based on the inspection renults.
Additionally, the lubricant will be changed in both enginen.
Significant findings an a renuit of this inspection program will be discussed in the finnt report of the component examination.
