Gentlemen:
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. L. J. Hueter of
this office on May 28 - 30 and June 4 - 5 and 17, 1986, of activities at
Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by NRC Operating
Licenses No. DPR-29 and DPR-30 and to the discussion of our findings with
Mr. Tamlyn and others at the site on June 5, 1986, and to the telephone
discussion between Messrs. Schumacher and Hueter of our staff and Messrs. Bax,
Turback, Dages and other members of your staff on June 17, 1986, regarding
continuing operability problems with the new liquid effluent monitors.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this
inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of
this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC
Public Document Room.
