REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR YANKEE R0WE, FAST NEUTRON FLUENCE FOR THE PRESSURE VESSEL, 10 CFR 50.61 (TAC N0. 59997)

The values of the fluence for the estimation of the RT are based on the "AnalysisofFastNeutronFluxLevelsandEnd-of-LifeSIhosurefortheYankee Rowe Reactor Pressure Vessel" by S. Anderson March 1981.

1.

The D3T analysis is based on the Pi scattering approximation which is known to result in non conservative answers. Please justify the use of the P scattering approximation.

y 2.

The cross sections used were not basad on the generally accepted ENDF/8-IV or V set of cross sections. Please justify the use of the cross sections.

3.

Reactor core power distributions were based on cycles XII-XV. However, there is no discussion for the exposure resulting from Cycles I-XI nor are there any assumptions stated for the exposure from future cycles.

Please clarify.

4.

The " Adequacy of the Analytical Method" as described is not equivalent to a benchmark. The comparisons are not based on laboratory type of measurements and there is no quantification of the expected uncertainty.

Please clarify.
