s August 25, 1986 Docket No. 50-416 LICENSEE: Mississippi Power & Light Company (MP&L)
FACILITY: Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF AUGUST 6, 1986 MEETING REGARDING INSPECTION OF DIVISION II TDI EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR The purpose of the n'eeting was to hear and discuss the licensee's additional justification for the deferral of a part of the DR/QR Phase I inspection for the Division II TDI emergency diesel generator. The deferral was requested and justified by letter dated June 7, 1986. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees.
Encicsure 2 is a copy of slides used in the meeting.
The licensee presented its plans and justification for deferring a part of the inspection of the Division II diesel generator as outlined in Enclosure 2. The part of the inspection not completed in the first refueling outage will be com-rieted in the second refueling outage. The second fuel cycle is 12 months long.
The inspection plan for the first refueling outage as presented in this meeting is more extensive than that proposed in the June 7, 1986 submittal. The staff inquired whether a materials test could be performed to ascertain that materials used in critical components are within specified limits. The licensee said that a materials test could be made for a representative sample of the components.
The licensee said that if the partial inspection results in the finding of significant failures, of certain components, then inspection of additional com-ponents would be made.
After a caucus the staff said that the additional inspections discussed in the meeting, when considered together with the inspections proposed in the June 7, 1986 letter appeared to be acceptable. The licensee agreed to file a letter providing the supplementary information presented in tne meeting for the staff's consideration in completing its review. The staff indicated that the supplementary information should include a description of a materials test and a commitment that any finding of a significant failure during the inspection will be reported to the staff for reconsideration of whether inspection of all critical components should be made during the first refueling outage.
