NRC Region III recently received an allegation involving aberrant behavior by a security officer at the Callaway Nuclear Plant. The enclosure to this letter describes the allegation. This issue was discussed with Mr. G. Pendergraff of your staff by Mr. G. Pirtle of this office on November 9, 1988.

We request that you initiate an inquiry of the allegation and implement corrective actions as appropriate. Your inquiry should include a review of the quality of the work performed by the individual identified in the enclosure to this letter. We also request that a written report of the results of your review and the disposition of this matter be provided to as within 30 days of receipt of this letter.

The enclosure to this letter should be strictly controlled and distribution limited to personnel with a "need-to-know " The enclosure to this letter is considered as Exempt From Public Disclosure in accordance with Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2.790. A copy of this letter, excluding the enclosure, will be placed in the Public Document Room as required by 10 CFR 2.790.

The response directed by this letter is not subject to the clearance procedure of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
