FORT CALHOUN STATION, UNIT NO.'1 (TAC NO. M93487) .

Dear Mr. Gambhir:

Enclosed is the staff's safety evaluation hf Omaha Public Power District's (OPPD's) response it NRC Generic Letter (GL) 95-07,

  • Pressure Locking and Thermal Binding of Safety-Related Power-Operated Gate Valves," for the Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1. GL 95-07 was issued on August 17,1995, and requested that licensees take actions to ensure that safety-related power-operated gate valves that are susceptible to pressure locking or thermal binding are capable of performing their safety functions.

By letter of February 13,1996, OPPD submitted its 180-day response to GL 95-07 for Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1. The NRC staff reviewed OPPD's submittal and requested additional information,in a letter dated June 27,1996. By letter of July 30,1996, OPPD provided the additional infcimation.- By letters of February 27 and November 9,1998, OPPD revised its February 13 and July 30,1996, submittals. ,

The staff has reviewed OPPD's submittals and finds that the actions requested in GL 95-07 have been adequately addressed, as discussed in the enclosed safety evaluation. This I completes the staff's efforts on TAC No. M93465.  ;
