SEP Topic III-5.A, Effect of Pipe Breaks Inside Containment
Dear Ms. McKenna:
We have previously submitted to you via Reference (b) our analysis of a postulated rupture of a main steam (MS) line near a steam generator. As an acceptable resolution of this iscue, Yankee proposed to inspect certain critical MS pipe welds as part of our 1987 In-Service Inspection (ISI) program. The specific welds are identified in Reference (b), Figure 1.
During our meeting on Thursday, March 12, 1987, a request was made to clarify our ISI commitment regarding these welds.
All eight (8) MS piping welds shown on Figure 1 in Reference (b) will be inspected during the 1987 refueling outage in conformance with ASME Section XI criteria. They will be included in our 10-year ISI program for Class 1 components and inspected periodically in accordance with the requirements of that program for the remaining life of the plant.
