Modification H-4-1-81-12 Description Modification M-4-1-81-12 was initiated to install a new 125 VDC switchgear to meet the fire protection requirements specified in 10CFR part 50, Appendix R.
A new room and essociated HVAC ductwork was built inside the existing Unit One battery charger room to provide a separate fire zone.
Installed in this r
new room is the new 125 VDC Turbine Building Bus 1A (Division 1).
In the old battery charger room, old Turbine Building Bus IA and 1B were electrically p,
tied together and now make up Trubine Building Bus IB (Division II). To maintain the original Division I and II arrangement, a large number of cables were moved from old Bus IA to new Bus 1A.
Evaluation The basic design of the 125 VDC distribution system is unchanged. The new switchgear is in a new physical location, l.owever, the distribution system remains a two-battery, shared system. Also, this modification provides three l
hour fire separation between Division I and II Unit one 125 VDC distribution buses which did not previously exist. Therefore, plant safety has been enhanc1d.

Modification M-4-1/2-83-020 Description This modification involved the installation of three hour fire rated doors between adjacent Unit 1 and Unit 2 RHR and RCIC corner rooms.
Later an addendum to install three hour fire rated doors near column 12/G and 14/G at 611' elevations in the Turbine building were added to the modification. The doors are installed to prevent fire from propagating between Division I and Division II cables in Unit.
The installations were required for the station to comply with fire protectior requirements given in 10CFR50, Appendix R.
Evaluation The doors were installed to comply with 10C"450 Appendix R. to prevent propagation of fire between divisions.
The doors will not affect the safe operation of the plant, and do not
^
require changes r.o the Technical Specifications.
Modification M-4-2-85-6 Descriptior3 This andification was implemented to reroute the normal 250 VDC power feed from MCC 2 to MCC 2A.
The rerouting of this power feed was necessary for the otation to comply with 10CFR50 Appendix R fire protection requiremento concerning the consequences of a fire in Fire Area TB-II and the resulting l
path to safe shutdown. The power feeds from MCC 1 to MCC 2B and from MCC 2 t
to MCC 7:A were routed through the common Fire Area TB-II.
A fire in this
[
area could therefore cause a loss of de power to both MCC 2A and MCC 2B.
New conduit and cable pans were installed for the new power feed which was t
rerouted through Fire Area TB-Ill.
Evaluation The purpose of this modification was to allow MCC 2A to remain functional I
in case a fire in Fire Area TB-II was to disable the normal feed to MCC 28.
The reroute of this power feed will ensure that the safety-related equipment powe*ed from redundant MCC's 2A and 2B will remain operable in spite of a fire in Fire Area TB-II.
The margin of safety, a; evaluated in the FSAR and/or any Technical Specification, is not reduced.

Modification M-4-2-85-7 Description This modificatior was implemented to install an alternate power feed to Unit 2 Division I RHR Room Cooler 2-5746A. This modification was necessary for the station to satisfy 10CFR50 Appendix R fire protection requirements concerning the consequences of a fire in Fire Zone 8.2.8.C and the resulting path to safe shutdown. An alternate feed was routed from Unit 1 MCC 18-lA to the 2A room cooler. A switch and indicating lights were installed in MCC 18-1A to switch from normal to alternate feeds. The alarm circuitry was also changed to provide an alarm in the control room when the room cooler motor trips or when the fan is in alternate feed.
, Evaluation The purpose of this modification was to provide power to the 2A RHR Room Cooler in case a fire disables the normal feed from MCC 28-1A.
Sir.ce the Unit 2 RHR Room Cooler must be operable when Unit 2 is running, the addition of the alternate feed will only ensure the room cooler's operability. Therefore, the margin of safety, as evaluated in the FSAR and/or any Technical Specification, is not changed.

Modification M-4-2-85-8 Description This modification was implemented to install local control and isolation capability for the inboard RCIC Steam Supply Isolation Valve, M0 2-1301-16.
This modification was necessary for the station to satisfy 10CFR50 Appendix R fire protection requirements concerning the consequences of a fire in Fire Area TB-II and the resulting path to safe shutdown. A local-remote selector switch, a local control switch, and position indicating lights were therefore installed in MCC 28-1A-1.
Evaluation The purpose of this modification was to allow RCIC Steam Supply Isolation Valve M0 2-1301-16 to remain operable following a spurious actuation which could be caused by a fire in Fire Area TB-II.
Since this modification has no effect on the intended function of the valve or the RCIC system, the margin of safety, as evaluated in the FSAR and/or any Technical Specification, is not changed.

Modification M-4-2-85-48 Description This modification is to replace the Hain Steam Line Drain valves on Unit 2 EPN 2-220-1 and 2 with Anchor / Darling 3" - 1500 pounds class valves. The i
existing 900 pounds Crane valves have shown a history of excessive leakage requiring extensive maintenance to repair.
The new valves should solve the leakage problem and withstand the pressures seen on them for longer periods of time.
Evaluation The safety evaluation is concerned with seismic, high pressure line.
fire, failure of valve, particles la liae, motor operating, double isolation, and Tech Spec qualifications.
In general the replacement of the existing valve with the new valve will in no way increase the possibility of problems of safety associated with the valve.

Modification M-4-1(2)-88-06A Description Modification M-4-188-06A was installed to permit the transfer of the RHR Swing Motor Control Center (MCC 28/29-5) to its alternate feed, despite a postulated loss of Division 11 DC control power. This was accomplished by removing an interlock which prevented simultaneous closure of both feed breakers to the Swing MCC.
Consequently, both the normal and alternate feed breakers to the Swing MCC are allowed to be closed on a loss of Division II DC control pouer. However, a single AC contactor prevents the two feeds from being "cross-tied".
Evaluation Modification M-4-2-88-06A was installed to permit the transfer of the RHR Swing MCC to its alternate feed, despite a loss of Division II DC control power. As a result, the reliability of the power source to the RHR injection valves is enhanced.
