DUANE ARNOLD INSPECTION REPORT 50-331/99003(DRP)
Dear Mr. Franz:
This refers to the inspection conducted on March 3 through April 13,1999, at the Duane Amold
Energy Center (DAEC) facility. The NRC conducted a routine safety inspection. The enclosed
report presents the results of this inspection.
During this 6-week inspection period, your conduct of activities at the DAEC facility was
characterized by safe operational performance. No violations of NRC requirements was
identified. However, an inadequate implementation of a modification to the "A" reactor water
cleanup pump installed this year resulted in an insufficient oil level and subsequent bearing
failure.
In accordance with 10 CFR Part 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and
its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
