Letter from Mr. M. O. Medford (SCE) to Mr. G. W. Knighton (Branch Chief, Licensing Branch No. 3 - USNRC) dated April 5,1985 - Steam Generator Status, with enclosure titled,
" Steam Generator Tubing Wear, San Onofre Unit 2," dated April 3, 1985.
Pursuant to Section 6.9.2 of Appendix A, Technical Specifications to Facility Operating License NPF-10, this report is being submitted as required by Surveillance Requirement 4.4.4.5(a) associated with Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) 3.4.4.
This Surveillance Requirement requires that a Special Report be prepared and submitted to the Commission within 15 days following the completion of each inservice inspection of steam generator tubes.
During the current refueling outage, an inservice inspection of the full length of 6.35% (584) of the tubes in Steam Generator E-088 was completed on May 1, 1986.
No defective tubes were identified. A supplementary inspection was conducted in Steam Generator E-089 to monitor the. progress of the tubing wear addressed in the reference. No defective tubes were identified. A total of 5 tubes in Steam Generator E-088 and 12 tubes in Steam Generator E-089 were preventively plugged due to indications of tubing wear.
