Dear Mr.'Musolf:
By, letters dated November 4, 1983 and July 6, 1984 you responded'to the requirements of the Salem ATW Item 4.5.2 of Generic Letter 83-28 as related to the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit Nos. 1 and-2.
Item 4.5.2 of Generic Letter 83-28 requires licensees of plants not currently designed to permit periodic on-line testing of the reactor trip system to justify not making necessary niodifications to allow such testing.. Your. response confirms that the Prairie Island Units are designed to permit on-line testing of the reactor trip systems and independent testing of the undervoltage and shunt-trip attachments of the reactor trip breakers.
The staff finds that you meet our position of Item 4.5.2 for the Prairie Island Units by your confirming statement on the design capability permitting on-line testing of the reactor trip systems. We, therefore, consider Item 4.5.2 of Generic Letter 83-28 to be closed by this action.
This action, however, does not close out TACs 54015.and 54016 associated-with Item 4.5.2 since staff review of Item 4.5.3 which also falls under the work scope of these TACs remains to be completed.
