REGULATORY GU10E DISTRIBUTION LIST (DIVISION 1) L Your attention is directed to the change in the title of the attached proposed i Revision 2 to Regulatory Guide 1.100. "Seismic Oualification of Electric and  !

Mechanical Equipment for Nuclear Power Plants." Revision 1 of this guide  :

covered electric equipment only. This proposed revision also covers mechanical equipeent. Specifically, this proposed regulatory guide covers two categories of equipment: (1) safety-related electric (Class 1E) r equipment and safety-related mechanical equipeent and (?) eculpment whose  !

failure could prevent the satisfactory accomplishment of safety functions, q t

This regulatory guide endorses IEEE Std 344-1987. "Recomended Practices for '

Seismic Qualification of Class IE Equipment for Nuclear' Power Generacing d Stations." with two exceptions. This standard recognizes the use of experience .i data for seismic qualification. Section 8.3 and Section 9 of IEEE Std 344-1987 b provide guidance on the use of experience data. The NRC staff believes that this approach is consistent with the proposed resolution of Unresolved Safety [4 Issue (US!) A 46 (NUREG-----). t While coments and suggestions are encouraged in all areas, coments are  !

specifically requested on the consistency of IEEE Std 344-1987 with the {
