RESPONSE TO hRC BULLETIN 88-04 On l'ay 5,1980, the NRC staff issued NRC Eu11etin 88-04, "Fotential Safety-RelatedPurgLoss." The bulletin requested the evaluation of all safety-related purps for 1, pur,p-tt-purp it.teraction duritig miniflow operation that could result in dead-heading of one or nore of the purps and 2) the adequacy of the r.iriimum flow byptss lines with respect to damage resulting from operation art testir.5 in the riinimut flow mode. The bulletin also requested that within CC.

ar.d long-tert rodifications to plant operating procedures or hardware that have been or art being irplenented to ensure safe plant operations, (c) identifies an apprcpriate schedule for lorg-tert, resolution of this and/or other significar,t problens that are identified as a result of this bulletin, and (d) provides justification for continued operation particularly with regard to General Design Criterion 35 of Appendix A to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR Part 50), "Er.iergency Core Cooling" and 10 CFR 50.46, "Acceptance Criteria for Emergency Core Cooling Systems for Light k'ater Nuclear Power Reactors." Additionally, the staff requested that within 30 days of corpletion of the long-tero resolution actions, that licensees provide a written response describing the actions taken.
