l A routine safety inspection of your annual emergency preparedness exercise was

! conducted by Mr. E. F. Fox, Jr. and other members of an NRC team on

September 19-21, 1988, at the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company, Wiscasset,

Maine. Discussions of our findings were presented by Mr. Fox to Mr. Frizzle

and other members of your staf f at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection included observation of the annual

l exercise and follow-up of findings identified during previous emergency

l preparedness inspections and exercises as described in the NRC Region I

l inspection report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas. the

inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative

l records, interviews with personnel and observation of the emergency exercise

by team members.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified. Maine

Yankee's performance during t% exercise demonstrated the ability to implement

l

the Emergency Plan and Emergency Plan Implenenting Procedures in a manner that

!

would provide adequate protective measures for the health and safety of the

I public.
