BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PIANT, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50 325 6 50-324/ LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 & DPR 62 INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION LETTER OF INTENT Centlemen:
Carolina Power & Light Company hereby declares its intent to license an independent spent fuel storage installation (ISFSI) at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP). As discussed with your staff during our October 4, 1988 presentation, a license application and associated information for this facility is expected to be submitted by January 6, 1989.
The current licensing schedule requires Commission review, approval, and issuance of a license for the installation by March 1,1990.
The facility is expected to consist of 44 modules, each of which will hold seven pressuri::ed water reactor (PWR) fuel assemblies.
The assurblics to be stored were irradiated at the 11. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit 2 and are currently being stored in the BSEP spent fuel pools.
Four possible sites in the owner controlled area at BSEP have been identified and are currently being evaluated for their suitability for an ISFSI.
Specific details of the facility design will be provided in our license application submittal.
