No. DPR-54 and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. Hooker with Mr.

J. F. Firlit and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the

inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the enclosed inspection

report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective

examinations of procedures and representative records, intervietis with

personnel, and observations by the inspector.

We note that your level of performance with respect to liquid effluents

continuet to warrant a high level of management attention. We racognize and

appreciate your internal assessments identifying continuing problems in this

f

area; however, the timeliness of your response needs to be improved,

f

.

Specifically, it is difficult to understand why the Chemistry Department had

not received your Audit Report No. 88-A-104, conducted June 1988, as of

[

!

September 15, 1988.

It is our intention to follow your activities in this

i

i

area closely with particular attention to possible changes in effluent quality

I

as plant operation continues.

No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified as a result of

i

this inspection.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of the letter and the enclosure

will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
