Dear Ms. Jackson,

Upon reading the article in this morning's New London Day pertaining to the investigation into the January 1996 layoffs at Millstone Nuclear Power Plant, I felt 1

compelled to write you this letter.

My husband, Patrick Burke, was one of the casushies of this layoff. He had served Millstone faithfully for 12 years,10 ofwhich were in the training department. My husband went above and beyond the call of duty teaching his classes and there was never a student that didn't have our hone, hone number so if there was a problem or question J

about the lessons he could call for assistance after work hours. Every year at review time, Pat was always given the highest rating due to his excellence in performance and was alwaya given the highest raise in pay accordingly. Some of the lesson plans and tests that he helped to create are still being used at power plants around the country.

Thinking that h was time for a change and hoping that he could be helpful down in the reactor srea of Millstone, he applied and received a job as an ALARA coordinator. After he had been in this position for about 3 months he realized that this was the word mistake ofhis career, but he tried his best. Unfortunately the other employees did not follow the standard procedures and went about the work schedule their own way. My husband uhimately became the fall guy and realizing he could not live with this kind ofwork ethic, asked to be switched out of the department.

About a year later, January 1996, the layoffs came and even though he was doing an excellent job in his new position, he was laid ofE He accepted this as a fact oflife and trimming the work force. What he can not accept is the fact that when he applied for at least four of thejob openings, his resume was not even acimowiedged and on one t

_ occasion he was given the wrong address to send the resume to so that it was received too late for the position deadline.

As you can see by his resume, he has vast experience in the nuclear field and can prove that he has an excellent work ethic. V hy won't Millstone hire him back? They have seemed to hire back many of the former layoffpeople, some that even made major U

4 mistakes.' Severalletters have been sent to Millstone by me trying to get an answer to this

- question but none have even been acknowledged.

' I am sending you this letter because you seem to be concerned about this matter and I'm hoping you can get the' answers that we seem unable to get. All my husband wants is a full day's pay for a full day's work so that he can support our family and Ih'e close to home instead of being a Nuclear Contractor working at power plants all over the country..

Any help you can provide to us in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Sandra Burke 17 Town Farm Road Ledyard,CT 06339 860 536-2393 J
