Dear Mr. Shelton:
I am responding to your letter of August 17, 1988, concerning the publication in various newspapers of a column by Jack Anderson about the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) investigation of an alleged incident at the Davis-Besse Station.
I want to assure you that the Commission did not authorize the release of the Office of investigation (01) report that Mr. Anderson's staff reportedly obtained, nor do we condone the release of such confidential investigative documents.
We regard unauthorized releases of sensitive information as serious matters, both because they place individuals under investigation in an unfair position and because they have a harmful impact on the integrity of investigative processes.
