NRC INSPECTION REFORT NO. 50-424/86-42
This refers to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspection conducted by
R. W. Parkhill on May 5-7, 1986 of activities authorized at your Vogtle facility.
The inspection included a review of Readiness Review Module 13C - Chapter 7.0
" Independent Design Review." At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings
were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed
inspection report.
The objective of the inspection was to ensure that Stone and Webster Engineering
Corporation (SWEC), the Independent Design Review (IDR) contractor, had performed
a thorough review of the Readiness Review module chapter, as well as to ensure
that appropriate corrective action had been implemented by Georgia Power Company
(GPC), where necessary. 1he results of this inspection are documented in the
enclosed inspection report and have been discussed with your staff during our
inspection exit briefing.
Based on this inspection, we believe that the IDR for Module 13C was performed
competently and effectively.
Minor comments are presented in the enclosed
inspection report. Your resolution of IDR Findings 1,2, and 7 will be examined
during the next inspection of the IDR portion of your Readiness Review Program.
Within the scope of the inspection, ne violations or deviations were identified.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2,
Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosure
