Pursuant to the requirements of Appendix B, Part II, Nonradiological, Environmental Protection Plan, Section 3.2, a copy of the report to the Michigan Water Resources Commission notifying them of a high pH while draining the steam generator on August 16, 1985, is cttached.
This report is required by Amendment No. 54 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-58 and Amendment No. 40 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-74 dated May 6, 1982.

Dear Mr. Zugger:
RE: Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. 0005827 Steam Generator Blowdown Anticipating a return to service af ter a maintenance outage, the Number 23 steam generator in the Unit 2 nuclear steam supply system was drained. A grab sample of the effluent was found to have a pH of 10.63.
The elevated pH is likely due to the addition of ammonia used during the outage to prevent steam generator degradation.
