NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE JANUARY 1987 At the onset of the January reporting period, power generation continued at approximately 96% Rated Thermal Power (48 MWe-net).
At 0650 on January 7, 1987, the reactor automatically shut down when the turbine stop valve went partially closed during performance of the weekly turbine simulated overspeed test.
At 0651, the turbine was tripped. Extensive testing was performed to determine the cause of the stop valve partial closure. The cause could not be conclusively determined.
The reactor was taken critical at 2040 on January 8.
The turbine generator was synchronized to the DPC grid at 1718 on January 9.
Power escalation continued until January 15, when 97% power (48 MWe-net) was achieved.
Power generation continued at approximately this level for the remainder of the reporting period.
