Request for Additional Information un Beaver Valley Unit 2 RHR Pumps In the event of a small LOCA that is subsequently isolated, the containment conditions could become harsh enough to preclude credit being given for use of the RHR pumps unless they were properly qualified for the environment.

Due to the lack of a water source to the sump, the low pressure recirculation pumps coold not be used and long-tena decay heat removal would have to be accomplished by the steam generators.

Please describe the sources of water available to provide feedwater to the steam generators and assure long-tena cooling per 10CFR50.46.

Discuss the reliability of these water sources and the water quality.

Response

The normal source of feedwater to the steam generators for cooling is provided by the Condensate and Main Feedwater Systems described in Section 10.4.7 of the BV-2 FSAR. Following a loss of nonnal feedwater, the Auxil-iary Feedwater System provides feedwater to the steam generators for long-tena cooling.

The nonnal source of water for the Auxiliary Feedwater System is the Primary Plant Demineralized Water Storage Tank (PPDWST),

which is described in Section 10.4.9 in the BV-2 FSAR.

The PPOWST is provided with connections to the Demineralized Water Storage Tank, which is described in Sections 9.2.3 and 10.4.9 of the FSAR.

A secondary water supply for the Auxiliary Feedwater System is provided though piping cross-connections with the Service Water Systein, which is described in Sections 9.2.1 and 10.4.9 of the FSAR.

An additional discussion of the long-tenn decay heat removal capabilities of BV-2 and its facilities is described in Appendix 5A of the BV-2 FSAR.
