Docket No. 99990001 Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania 19462 General License (10 CFR 35.11)

As a result of the inspection conducted on August 4, 1988, and in accordance with the NRC Enforcement Policy (10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C), the following violation was identified:

A.

10 CFR 31.11(c)(1) states that general licensees possessing and using radioactive material for use in in vitro clinical and laboratory testing shall not possess at any one time, at any one location of stvrage or use, a total amount of iodine-125, iodine-131, selenium-75, and/or iron-59 in excess of 200 microcuries.

Contrary to this requirement, as of August 4,1988, you possessed more than 200 microcuries of iodine-125 and/or iodine-131.

Specifically, you were found to be in possession of more than 1,827 microcuriei of iodine-125 and iodine-131.

This is a Severity Levei IV violation.

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, DeKalb Laboratory, Int. 4s hereby required to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of the letter which transmitted this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, including: (1) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending this response time.
