ENCLOSURE TMI-1 STATUS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD JULY 25 - AUGUST 1,1986 1.
Plant Status As of 8:00 a.m. on August 1, 1986, TMI-1 was operating at 100 percent power and at normal reactor coolant temperature (579 F) and pressure (2155 psig).
2.
Facility Operations Summary At the start of the period, the plant was operating at 100 percent power and continued to operate at 100 percent throughout the reporting period.
No significant operational problems were identified. During this period, the following significant surveillances were completed: Channel B re-actor protection system calibration / check; surveillance test on building spray pump 1A and IB; decay heat closed cooling water system; and, sur-veillance testing on diesel generator 18.
3.
Item of Special Interest Inadvertent Dropping of a Make-up Purification Filter During replacement of a filter assembly in the makeup purification (MU) system on Monday, July 28, 1986, the filter was inadvertently dropped.
The filter is used to aid in cleanup of reactor coolant system (RCS) water by removing particulate matter from the water. The filter, which read approximately 400 rem per hour on contact, was being moved using a long-handle tool to minimize personnel radiation exposure. Maintenance per-sonnel were in the process of transferring the filter from the make-up system filter housing unit to a shielded transfer casket when the filter slipped off the tool and fell onto the floor. No personnel hazard re-sulted. The filter remained intact and the licensee successfully picked up the filter, again using a long-handled tool, and placed it in the trans-fer casket the same day.
Local Public Document Room The NRC has a full service Local Public Document Room (LPDR) at the State Library of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.
In addition, there have been four
" Mini" LPDRs which had been receiving restart hearing transcripts only.
In late August, the NRC Office of Administration plans to close the " mini" LPDRs, which have been seldomly, if ever, used by the public in the past year. Anyone having objection to this decision should contact Jona Souder, Division of Rules and Records, Office of Administration, USNRC, Washington, D. C. 20555 (phone: 301-492-7536) by August 8, 1986, or as soon thereafter as possible.
The " mini" LPDRs are:
(1) Dauphin Library System, Harrisburg; (2) Penn State York Campus; (3) Free Library of Philadelphia; and, (4) Penn State University, University Park.
The full service LPDR will, of course, continue at the State Library of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP)
A management meeting between NRC and GPU Nuclear was held on July 30, 1986, at the NRC R2gion I Office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania,- to discuss the SALP. An open and frank discussion was held to allow both organiza-tions to comment and discuss their views on the salient points of the SALP.
NRC Region I plans to hold a public meeting in the Harrisburg area in about a month to allow the general public to discuss the SALP with the NRC staff.
When the location and date of this meeting is finalized, the information will be included in the TMI-1 Weekly Status Report. The planned meeting will be similar in purpose to the one held in Middletown on April 24, 1986, to discuss the previous SALP.
5.
NRC Staff Activities During the Period During this report period work week, the NRC staff on site consisted of the senior resident inspector, three resident inspectors, and one region-based inspector.
The NRC staff at TMI-1 was comprised of the following personnel during the period:

This report details the resident staff inspection activities during May 17 -
June 27, as well as review by a region-based specialist of the licensee's startup report. No violations of NRC requirements were identified. A review of the licensee's in-service testing (IST) program identified several unresolved items that will require additional followup.
