i This refers to the investigation conducted by investigators E. L. Williamson i
and R. H. Burch of our Region II office during the period from June 28, to July 19, 1982.
The investigation was conducted after a former General Electric (GE) engineer in the Mark III containment design group resigned his position and informed Mississippi Power & Light, the license applicant for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station that there werenumerousunresolvedissuespertainingtotheMarkIIIcontainment and that many of the issues were safety concerns potentially applicable to the Grand Gulf facility. This investigation, and the inspection conducted concurrently by a Region IV-inspector (reference 99900403/82-03),
was deemed necessary to determine whether the Mark III. containment concerns were handled aro)erly by GE relative to the reporting requirements set i
forth in 10 CFR ) art 2

The results of this investigation are described in the Summary of Investiga-tion, which is enclosed with this letter. 'The investigation consisted of examinations of representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the investigators.

Con-sistent with section 2.790(b)(1), any such application must be accompanied by an affidavit executed by the owner of the information which identifies the document or part sought to be withheld, and which contains a full statement of the reasons on the basis which it is claimed that the information should be withheld from aublic disclosure.
This section further requires the statement to address wit 1 specificity the considerations listed in 10'CFR 2.790(b)(4).
The informatien sought to be withheld shall be incorporated as far as possible into a separate part of the affidavit.. If we do not hear'from you in this regard within the specified periods noted above,.the report will be placed in the Public Document Room.
