a ENCLOSURE 1 Response to Questions Contained in Enclosure 1 of NRC Letter (NYR 86-55), dated March 14 1986 Question 1:
In Attachment B for Item 18, the evaluation code is B1-2.
This l
would appear to be a typographical error; the correct code is requested.
Response
The Evaluation Code B1-2 for Item 18 of Attachment B is indeed a typographical error. The correct code is B1-1.
Ouestion 2:
For Item 49, Attachment B, no data is provided. It was not clear whether this item should have been deleted based on Item 17 of Attachment A or if information is missing.
Response
Item 49, Attachment B, " Fuel Oil Piping System (EDGS)," was not removed from the scope of SEP Topic III-1 based on Item 17 of Attachment A.
Item 17 of Attachment A deletes only the fuel oil transfer pumps. Item 49 of Attachment B has no data provided because:
a.
Reference (d), Table 5-1, " Review of Fracture Toughness
]
Requirements, YNPS," indicates "No" impact test required and material as "not applicable." No problem area is identified, b.
Reference (d), Table 4-1, " Classification of Structures, Systems, and Components, YNPS," and Table 4-2(c), " Quality Croup C Components," also do not indicate any " missing" l
information or unacceptable situations.
Therefore, since no information was missing and no unacceptable situations identified, a data line entry for Item 49 is not required.
l Question 3:
In the index of resolutions for Attachment B, radiography testing is noted as being specified per W65-NPP, YS-4652, and the Stone and Webster ECCS Backfit Specification. A brief description of the references is requested.
Response
W65-NPP, " Welding Procedure Specification for Nuclear Power i
Piping for Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping - Typo 304, Part II, Shop Fabrication Welding" with addendum adding Type 316, dated August 12, 1957. This document specifies that l
radiographic inspection be performed on all butt welds in the Main Coolant Piping System and other 2,000 pound or higher pressures lines, four-inch diameter, and larger. Radiographic acceptability is based on ASTM-E99-55T.

YS-4652, " Specification for Shop and Field Fabrication Nuclear Piping for Revised Arrangement of Safety Injection and Shield Tank Cavity Water Piping," dated July 28, 1970. This document specifies that radiographic inspection be performed on all butt welds of all piping installed per this specification.
Radiographic acceptability based on Appendix bl USAS B31.7-1969.
Stone and Webster ECCS Backfit Specification This document contains a series of construction specifications and purchase orders which include YS-3, " Specification for Stainless Steel Valves for the Safety Injection System." This requires that radiographic inspection be performed on all ECCS valves. Radiographic acceptability is equivalent to ANSI B16.34-1973.
