Dear Mr. Denise:
Site Security System Computer Failures The purpose of this letter is to update you as to the current status of the District's corrective actions relating to security computer failures. At the time of the previous letter OPPD planned to take four actions:
- 1. Continue working with vendors on reviewing software programs with the intent of identifying problem areas.
- 2. Modify, as necessary, portions of the operating system software to increase system reliability.
- 3. Review the need for modifying the computer hardware.
- 4. If deemed appropriate, modify computer hardware to increase system reliability.
Consultation with vendors, as per Item (1) identified software problem areas.
Minor software modifications were made and tested.
Several ap-proaches to modifying operating system software were investigated per Item (2). While some success was achieved, various complications arising from these attempts has resulted in a recommendation for both hardware and 8608010247 860724 PDR ADOCK 0500 5

a Mr. R. P. Denise LIC-86-127 Page 2 software replacement. Thus, Items (1) and (3) have been completed, while Item (4) was determined not to be appropriate with the current site secur-ity computer system. A major modification to replace existing hardware and software is planned.
Initial action has been taken and a consultant has been selected to aid in the development of a bid specification. A schedule for this replacement process will be developed in accordance with resource availability and vendor ability to meet our needs.
When OPPD's plans are finalized for this modification, your office will be notified.
