This is in reply to your letter of September 29, 1978, in which you requested signature on an agreement to respond to a request in the event of an offsite emergency. Our actions responsive to incidents i
encompass inquiries, inspections, investigations, follow-up and evaluation of actions taken to preclude recurrence of such incidents, notification and reporting to appropriate agencies and, if necessary, requesting Radiological Assistance at the scene of the incident.
It is therefore unnecessary for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to sign the above mentioned agreement; however, we need to be notified 4
j of the severity of the incident.
The NRC is signatory to the Interagency Radiological Assistant Plan 3
(IRAP). Under the provisions of the IRAP, the DOE-Chicago Operations Office is designated the coordinating office for requests and response f or Federal Agency Assistance in this region to cope with conditions resulting from radiological incidents and accidents.
