50-339 PWR Project Directorate #2 License No. NPF-7 Division of PVR Licensing-A U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT NO. 2 GENERAL DESIGN CRITERION 17 MODIFICATION STATUS Virginia Electric and Power Company has completed General Design Criterion (GDC) 17 required modifications for North Anna Unit 2 as discussed in our letters of November 28, 1984 and June 28, 1985, Serial Nos. 253F and 85-491.

Our letter of December 23, 1985 for North Anna Unit 1,

Serial No.

85-750B, clarified our position on the MOV enhancements.

Specifically, the letter discussed the installation of torque switch limiter plates, that are referenced in your Safety Evaluation dated November 13, 1984, and our letters of February 26, 1982 and May 15, 1984, Serial Nos. 76 and 253, respectively. As discussed in our December 23, 1985 letter, ensuring protection of the motor after the MOV performs its intended safety function is a concern raised in our GDC 17 analysis. Installation of the torque switch limiter plates f3 but one method of providing this protection of the motor.

It is our intent to address this concern for Unit 2 through administrative measures that control torque switch settings. These measures are the same as those described in our December 23, 1985 letter for North Anna Unit 1.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us.

pVery truly yours,

\\
