, HADDAM NECK PLANT The Commission has issued the enclosed exemption from the single failure ,

requirements of General Design Criteria No. 35 of 10 CFR 50, Appendix A, l and the Interim Acceptance Criteria in response to your letter dated l April 22, 1986. This exemption, which is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication, pertains to the requirement that the single failure criterion be assumed in all emergency core cooling system evaluations. In particular, it exempts two valves, in the suction line for the high pressure safety injection system, located outside the containment, from single failure considerations in the event a small break  ;

break loss-of-coolant accident should occur during the period of cycle 14 operation.
