Dear Mr. Denton:
Attachment I to this letter is a proposed amendment to Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-39 and DPE-48, Appendix A, Section 4.3, Reactor Coolant System. This change will allow Zion's steam generator tubes to be repaired, if needed, by utilizing an NRC approved sleeving method. The specific methods to be employed at Zion will be submitted to the NRC in the l
future.
The current Zion Technical Specifications require the plugging of any steam generator tube that contains a defect of greater than 40% depth.
This action removes the tube from service. This change will allow the option of simply sleeving the tube to repair a defect in the tube sheet region, thus allowing the tube to remain functional. provides a brief description of the proposed amendment along with a technical justification. Attachment 3 to this letter is a demonstration that the issue involves no significant hazards consideration.
The proposed amendment has received On-Site and Off-Site review and approval.
A $150.00 fee reetttance is enclosed in accordance with 10 CFH 170.
As provided by 10 CFR 50.91, the State of Illinois is being notified of this amendment request by transmittal of a copy of this letter and the attachments, n ml,0o+&*
